The Gothenburg Museum of Art has the world’s foremost collection of Nordic art from the last decades of the 19th century. A large part hangs in the Fürstenberg Gallery, which has three stars in the Guide Michelin. The couple Mathilda and Pontus Fürstenberg contributed to the dynamic art scene in Gothenburg during the 1880s and 1890s. This tour takes you on a journey from the splendors of history painting represented by Gustaf Cederström’s The Body of Charles XII of Sweden Being Carried Home from Norway, via the realistic portrayals of contemporary life in the works of Carl Larsson, among others, to the lyrical “Nordic light” in Richard Bergh’s Nordic Summer Evening.
