Experience the Gothenburg Museum of Art

The Gothenburg Museum of Art is home to one of Northern Europe’s finest art collections. Here, works by masters like Rembrandt, Picasso, and van Gogh are shown alongside contemporary artists such as Charlotte Gyllenhammar, Lina Selander, and Cajsa von Zeipel.

Outside the museum, you’re greeted by Carl Milles’ monumental sculptures at Götaplatsen—a landmark in the cityscape and a gateway to the world of art. Inside, you’ll encounter everything from Claude Monet’s softly shimmering impressionism to Vincent van Gogh’s expressive bursts of color. Among the international masters, you’ll also find works by Rembrandt and Picasso.

The museum places a special emphasis on Nordic art around the turn of the 20th century, particularly in the internationally acclaimed Fürstenberg Gallery, featuring significant works by Richard Bergh, P.S. Krøyer, Carl Larsson, and Anders Zorn. The collection also includes masterpieces by Anders Zorn, Hanna Pauli, Edvard Munch, and several of the vibrant Gothenburg Colourists—Åke Göransson, Ivan Ivarson, Ragnar Sandberg, and Inge Schiöler. Stroll through the galleries, from the Renaissance to the present day, to reconnect with old favorites or discover new ones!

This summer, don’t miss the major exhibition Apocalypse. From the Last Judgment to Climate Threat—500 years of dramatic end-time art that both entertains and unsettles.
