Feel like letting loose your creativity? Do you want to develop your technical skills and test out different media? If so, My Art School is the place for you! Here, you can be inspired by art and by others with similar interests. Everyone of age 13 years or older is welcome to these meetings with creative activities based on different themes and materials.
We start every meeting with a short guided tour and the art educator shows artworks and points out aspects that are especially relevant for your practical work in the Studio. Each occasion is devoted to a certain technique or material that you get to try out. Our art educator also gives advice and tips on how you can reach further in your creative work.
The facilities are accessible if you use a wheelchair or need to avoid stairs. No previous knowledge is required – just your curiosity! You do not have to give us notice beforehand, but the number of participants is limited, so it is a good idea to be on time.
There is a fee for materials (30 SEK), and if you are over 24 years old you need to pay admission (80 SEK) to the exhibition Tove Jansson – The Desire to Create and Live.

My Art School - Spring 2017
Wed 8 Mar - Paint with India Ink
India ink can be used in many different ways, and it has been in use for many thousands of years. You can paint, draw and lay out thick and thin layers of colour, so called washes. Feel free to explore the effects that can be created and discover how random “mistakes” can become strokes of genius!

Wed 22 Mar - What Comes First: Words or Illustrations?
Tove Jansson masterfully combined words and illustrations – try it for yourself! Create your own combinations by using quotes by Tove Jansson or a line of your own, and make an illustration that fits. Or do it the other way around – start out from an illustration, and see what happens when you add words!

Wed 5 Apr - Try out Scratchboard!
Scratchboard is black cardboard, and when you scrape off the ink, white lines emerge. Tove Jansson liked to experiment with different techniques and many of the illustrations in the book “Moominland Midwinter” were made using scratchboard. In this workshop, we investigate the possibilities of this medium. Since everything starts out black, the technique is especially suitable for darker subject matter and eerie moods, and it is easy to achieve good-looking graphic effects. Scroll up for important information about the activity.
