Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art 2025 – Göteborgs konstmuseum

20 september–30 november 2025

The Gothenburg Museum of Art is one of the co-producers of Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) 2025.

Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) is an international contemporary art project that consists of several major exhibitions at established art institutions and in the public realm. Röda Sten Konsthall is the organiser of Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art. GIBCA 2025 is co-produced together with Gothenburg City Library, The Gothenburg Museum of Art, Göteborgs Konsthall and Skövde Art Museum.

To each of its editions, the biennial invites one or several internationally practicing curators to propose a theme and invite artists. Christina Lehnert has been appointed as curator for GIBCA 2025. Several of the artworks in the biennial will be co-produced and presented at the premises of the Gothenburg Museum of Art.

Through guided tours and programmes such as talks and lectures, visitors can deepen their knowledge of the themes and artworks part of the biennial. An expanded art education programme invites both children and young people to a broad array of activities at several of the biennial’s exhibition venues.

The biennial plays a central role in connecting the regional, national, and international art scene. Since 2013, Röda Sten Konsthall is also the organiser of the network GIBCA Extended, open to artists, artist-run initiatives and institutions in the Region of West Sweden. The members of the network develop and present own programme and exhibitions throughout the entire biennial autumn, to nuance and respond to the thematic proposed by the curator.
